Children’s Dentistry in Kew

As a multi-dentist practice, we can provide flexible appointment times for busy parents and children. At Willsmere Dental, we provide expectant families with the information they need to promote healthy teeth for their growing child. By your child’s second birthday, it’s time for their first dental checkup.

Our Experienced Team

Monica is a qualified oral health therapist. Alongside her mother, father and brother team of dentists at the practice, the Ramzy family can care for the dental needs of your whole family, from the oldest to the youngest member.

Promoting Early Oral Health

From preventative cleans to protective dental sealants, our goal is to help your child avoid tooth decay and have a strong smile that will last years into adulthood.

As your child becomes familiar with the dental office environment, we provide them with the information and preventive care they need to avoid everyday problems like cavities, toothaches and bad breath.

We help your child make smart choices about nutrition, home hygiene, and habits that affect the development of their teeth.

What If My Child Is Nervous?

Familiarising your child with our practice should be the focus of their first visit. We will introduce them to our friendly dental setting and they can play in the chair.

If your child feels anxious, Monica uses desensitising tactics, such as introducing dental elements bit by bit. “I’ll refer to things that children are familiar with, such as a polisher being like an electric toothbrush. We can try the polisher on their finger before using it on their teeth. We also don’t use complicated words, such as medical jargon,” she added.

At our practice, we take the time to ease kids into their dental care. To make visits fun, we talk about the tooth fairy and sleepy juice, for example (versus saying local anaesthetic). “By taking time with kids, we can ensure they can process the environment and remove any of those fears of the unknown,” said Monica.

Kid-Friendly Teeth Brushing Tips

When teeth brushing becomes fun for your child, they’ll look forward to it, which can help them optimise their oral and dental health! Here are some tips:

  • Lie them down like you would in a dental chair, so on the sofa at home, and brush their teeth in that reclined position.
  • To make it a fun experience for your younger child, consider putting a timer on, or even playing your child’s favourite song–anything that encourages them to brush for the entire two minutes.
  • For older kids, let them have a turn themselves, then check their teeth afterwards to ensure they brushed well.
  • We recommend supervised brushing until age 9.

Safeguard Your Child’s Smile

Our practice also offers custom-fitted mouth guards to protect against sports trauma. (Many health insurers offer fully covered mouth guards once a year.)
